What considerations do people have when they have had surgery to remove part of their GI tract, such as the stomach, part of the small intestine, or colon?

The digestion of food occur in the stomach and absorption in the small intestine so if the part of GIT remove then it cause problem in the digestion and absorption of the food.

Surgery can cause -

• heart attack

• stroke

• infection

• bleeding

• damage to surrounding structure

And also it may leads to the

• frequent diarrhea

• bleeding in the bellypus collecting in the abdomen, also known as an intra-abdominal abscess (which may require drainage)

• intestine pushing through the incision into your belly (incisional hernia)

• scar tissue that forms an intestinal blockage requiring more surgery

• short bowel syndrome (problems absorbing vitamins and nutrients)

Sometimes it is difficult for a person to live without a part of GIT.
