A metabolic pathway that allows for the production of a large amount of ATP per glucose molecule

Answer #1

Answer

A metabolic pathway that allows for the production of a large amount of ATP per glucose molecule : Cellular respiration

  • Cellular respiration involves three stages :
    1) Glycolysis
    2) Citric acid cycle
    3) Oxidative phosphorylation
  • Large number of ATP is produced using one molecule of glucose in cellular respiration.
  • 38 ATP molecules can be produced after a glucose molecule is processed through all these stages.
  • 2 ATP molecules are used during the process (transport of NADH in glycolysis), hence the total yeild is 36 ATP.
