Mary has diabetes. This has been determined by a urine test with indicates too much glucose in the urine. As of yet, she has no excessive glucose in the blood. Which part of the nephron has failed? What might explain the reason why she does not have excessive glucose in the blood?
PCT (Proximal convoluted tubule) of nephron is responsible for reabsorption of glucose from filterate (almost 90% of filtered glucose is reabsorbed here by active transport). Therefore PCT of nephron has failed in case of Mary.
Because of faliure of PCT, most of glucose is not reabsorbed and hence glucose appears in urns, that's why her blood glucose appears normal.
