Homeostasis is ability of body to maintain nearly constant internal environment despite any stress (internal or external).

  • It has following components - sensory receptors, afferent neuron, control center, efferent neuron, effector.

Example -

  • Hot environment is stress for body because it increases body temperature. This activates homeostatic mechanism which reduce body temperature by increasing sweating, causing vasoconstriction of dermal vessel etc.
