Membrane is the bodyguard of the cell. It allows limited movement of the substances and its depend on the various factors like polarity, size of the molecule and hydrophilic or phobic:-

*Small size molecule can cross the membrane easily while the large size of molecule cannot pass through across membrane.

*Charged or polar or ionic molecules are least permeable to the membrane whereas non ionic or non polar or uncharged molecules diffuse across the membrane.

*Membrane is made up of lipid layer therefore hypnotic molecules can cross the membrane but hydrophilic molecule not able to diffuse.
