Serous cells are special secretory cells that are specialized to secrete enzymes. They make a lining in the salivary. glands, acini of the pancreas, gastric chief cells and are also found in the lining of the intestines.

It is found that the parotid glands are almost exclusively lined by serous cells while the sublingual glands have predominantly mucus cell lining. In the submandibular glands, the acini are composed of both serous and mucus cells.
