True or False: The cardiovascular system is regulated by the autonomic system, as increased sympathetic activity causes arteriolar vasoconstriction and increased parasympathetic activity causes arteriolar vasodilation.
If false, explain...
Ans- The statement is true.
The autonomic nervous system controls the cardiovascular system. It's two parts acts as antagonist- the sympathetic nervous acts as stimulatory and increases the activity of heart whereas parasympathetic system is inhibitory and decreases the activity. The sympathetic nervous system acts in the case of emergency, it releases norepinephrine which is a powerful vasoconstrictor and causes vasoconstriction of the blood vessels thus increasing blood pressure. This occurs as a result of activation of alpha 1 adrenergic receptors by norepinephrine.
Parasympathetic nervous system is stimulated in the normal conditions and releases acetylcholine and decreases the activity of heart like heart rate, cardiac output and causes vadodialation of arterioles thus decreasing blood pressure.
