The stretch receptors and chemoreceptor play an important role in maintaining homeostasis. They detect changes in blood flow, ph of blood, Partial pressure of gases in the blood and stimulate the nervous system to maintain it into normal range. The stretch receptors sense the muscle tension and length especially during change in blood floe through the vessels. The chemoreceptors are two types, central and peripheral. the central chemoreceptors respond to the change in pH of the CSF where the peripheral chemoreceptors respond to the Partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood. for example, if metabolism in a tissue become low, the peripheral chemoreceptors detect it and send signals to the nervous system to increase the blood flow to the tissues through vasodilation.
