Monkeys and humans have very similar visual systems. In either case, how many parvocellular layers exist in lateral geniculate nucleus of the thalamus?
The lateral geniculate nucleus of thalamus is relay center for the visual pathway.
There are FOUR parvocellular layers which exists in the lateral geniculate nucleus of the thalamus.
In humans the lateral geniculate nucleus has six cellular layers. Out of these six layers, layer number 3, layer number 4, layer number 5 and layer number 6 are parvocellular layers whose source is the cones cells. Layer number 1 and 2 are magnocellular layers whose source is the rods cells.
