Trace a water molecule from the drinking glass to absorption at ileum to excretion from the body to the atmosphere in exhaled air.

Answer #1

The pathway of water in our body is as follow-

After drinking water, from mouth water moves to stomach, small intestine and finally into large intestine . Large intestine is the main part where water absorption occur. Water absorption occurs in ileum and enters systemic circulation and this water is supplied to each and every cell of body. Blood reaches kidneys and its filtration occur. At the level of kidney, the water along with other excretory products forms urine and is excreted.

water lost in expiration.

During expiration, the air present in lungs is pushed out into the atmosphere. The lining of the lung is always in moist state. The moisture in the lungs makes the air present in lungs full of moisture. When we expire, the water in the form of moisture is removed along with expired air.

A light ray enters a glass enclosed fish tank. From air it enters the glass at 20° with respect to the plane of the surface and then emerges into the water. Water is supplied to the atmosphere by evaporation from the surface, and leaves the atmosphere via precipitation. The average amount of time a water molecule spends in the atmosphere can be derived by dividing the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere (1.1?1016 ??) by the globally-averaged rate of precipitation to the Earth’s surface of 3.1 ?? ??? −1 . Using these data, calculate how many days, on average, a water molecule spend in the atmosphere before it precipitates out.
