◦ Describe the three layers (tunics) found in all named (i.e. large) blood vessels. Compare and contrast these tunics in arteries to the same tunics in veins.
The three layers in the blood vessels are from inner to outer layer
Tunica intima
Tunica media
Tunica external / adventitia
The tunica intima in arteries consists of elongated endothelial cells where as in veins it consists of flat endothelial cells
The tunica media in the arteries are made upof strong smooth muscle cells and elastic fibers whereas in the veins it has less smooth muscle cells and almost no elastic fibers
The tunica externa in the arteries are less developed wheras in the veins it is well developed.
Hope this helps.... Thank you!!!
