how does one lung collapse and not both?

Answer #1

Collapsion of lung is caused due to a condition of "pneumothorax", which occurs when the air gets leaked into the space between lungs and the chest wall. This will shrink or collapse the lung by pushing the air on the outside of the lung. Pneumothorax can collapse the either the entire complete lung or only a portion of the lung. Pneumothorax can even lead to atelectasis because, alveoli gets deflated when the lung gets smaller due to shrinkage. This pneumothorax is the reason why one lung collapse and not the both.

Problem: Proportion of ”Cured” Cancer Patients: How Does Canada Compare with Europe? Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death for both Canadian men and women, responsible for the most potential years of life lost to cancer. Lung cancer alone accounts for 28% of all cancer deaths in Canada (32%. in Quebec). Most forms of lung cancer start insidiously and produce no apparent symptoms until they are too far advanced. Consequently, the chances of being cured of lung cancer...

How does a slower and deeper breathing pattern, larger lung volume, and higher percent hemoglobin saturation help people adapt to high altitudes? I think that slow deep breathing would help conserve energy and that a greater lung volume could help increase SA so there would be more efficient gas exchange. I am not sure if this is correct. I also am confused about how a greater % Hb saturation would help people adapt to high altitudes.

Regarding: smoking tobacco cigarettes and lung cancer These two events--"smoking" and "lung cancer"--are strongly correlated, and clinical trials have been conducted to show that smoking is a contributing factor to the development of lung cancer. Which statement best reflects the relationship between smoking tobacco cigarettes and lung cancer? The relationship is correlated but not causal because lung cancer doesn't cause smoking--the causality only goes one way. The relationship is correlated and causal: smoking causes lung cancer. The relationship is correlated...

The Lung Capacity data Several variables are recorded on individuals in a medical clinic, one of which is their lung capacity. The variables in this data set are:             Gender (Male, Female)             Age (in years)             Height (inches)             Weight (pounds)             Chest (circumference, in inches)             Waist (circumference, in inches)             Activity (level, Light, Moderate, Heavy)             Smoke (Yes, No)             Capacity (lung capacity, in liters) You will not need to open the data file in order to...
