Give any criteria that can be met during a stress test that would indicate or contraindicate an exercise program.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

An exercise programme induces physiological stress that results in cardiovascular system to work harder in order to meet the increased demands of body cells.
Individuals with cardiovascular abnormalities can not cope up with this overload on heart and results in abnormal body response. Monitoring such body responses and immediate termination of exercise programme is required to prevent cardiovascular damage.
Some of the criteria that indicates termination of exercise programme are :

1. chest pain : Sudden pain in chest may indicate angina and the exercise programme

2. Dizziness or presyncope

3. Abnormal rise in blood pressure. Systolic BP > 280mmhg
