The lungs are linked to the ribs through : Pleural
membrane
- Pleural membrane lies internal to ribcage and covers the
external surface of lungs.
- There are two layers of pleural membrane.
1) Parietal pleura
2) Visceral pleura
- Parietal pleura is attaches to internal suface of chestwall
(ribs). Visceral pleura is attached to external surface of
lungs.
- The space between these two layers is called pleural cavity. It
contains pleural fluid that acts as shock absorbant to protects the
lungs.
