Proteins are usually too large to be filtered. The presence of protein in urine indicates a malfunction of which segment of a nephron?

Homework Answers

Answer #1
  • Presence of protein in urine indicate malfunction of Glomerulus.
  • Glomerulus is a tiny ball shaped structure composed of blood vessel, which is actively involved in filtration of blood to form urine.
  • Normally red blood cells and proteins are large, hence it is not permeable through glomerular membrane and not seen in filtrate.
  • But incase of any inflammation of glomerular membrane causes allowing of proteins through filtration slits and pass through urine.
  • Glomerulonephritis , is the inflammation of glomerulus, symptoms include hypertension , foamy urine due to presence of excess protein.
