Below are the results of a manual recticulocyte count .Show calculation 1st slide =15 recticulocyte counted in 1000 cells 2nd slide= 17 recticulocyte counted in 1000 cells . If the patient is an adult female with a haematocrit value of 25% .Correct her recticulocyte count. Show calculation

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans:

1st Slide = 15 reticulocyte count in 1000 cells, 2nd Slide = 17 reticulocyte count in 1000 cells, Patient Haematocrit value = 25% and Normal Haematocrit value = 45%

Average of reticulocyte number conted in 1000 cells = (15 +17) / 2 = 16

% Reticulocytes = (Number of reticulocytes in 1000 cells X 100) / 1000 (RBC's Observed)

= (16 x 100)/ 1000 = 1.6

So, % Reticulocytes = 1.6%

Corrected reticulocyte count = (% Reticulocytes x Patient Haematocrit Value) / 45 (Normal Haematocrit)

= (1.6 x 25) / 45 = 0.89

So, Corrected reticulocyte count = 0.89%
