Classify the olfaction receptor: Interoceptor, exteroceptor, or proprioceptor?

Interoceptor

Exteroceptor

Proprioceptor

Homework Answers

Answer #1

depending on the position and function, the receptors are mainly classified into 4.

1) teloreceptors- which are concerned with events at a distance, eg, rods and cones , hair cells

2) exteroceptors- which are concerned with external environment at hand. eg, receptors for touch, cold, warmth, smell, sound, sight etc..

3) interoceptors - it is concerned with internal environment. eg, baroceptors in carotid and aortic bodies, osmo receptors in blood vessels.

4) proprioceptors - it provide information about the position of the boduy in space at any given instant, eg, muscle spindle , golgi tendon organ.

So the answer - Exteroceptors- as olfaction is corncerned with external environment.

1. Receptor A and Receptor B are both G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), expressed in the same cell, but they control different biological responses. Receptor A and Receptor B are known to bind and respond to Hormone A and Hormone B, respectively. Treatment of the cells in the laboratory with Hormone A and B revealed that activation of Receptor A results in a dramatic increase in cyclic-AMP levels in the cell, while activation of Receptor B results in increased inositol triphosphate...
