From the list of structures that you ordered for hearing, which structure is the receptor that changes sound energy to action potential?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Inner ear contain receptors for sound, that changes sound energy into action potential

Organ of corti is the structure which converts sound energy into action potential, hair cells present in organ of corti converts sound energy into actionpotential.

Process:

Bones in the middle ear transmit vibrations to cochlea->pressure waves in cochlea->causes another membrane to vibrate binding its hair cells->bending depolarizes the membrane of special receptor and send action potential to brain via cranial nerve 8.

The ability to hear a "pin drop" is the sign of sensitive hearing. Suppose a 0.63 g pin is dropped from a height of 27 cm, and that the pin emits sound for 1.3 s when it lands. Part A Assuming all of the mechanical energy of the pin is converted to sound energy, and that the sound radiates uniformly in all directions, find the maximum distance from which a person can hear the pin drop. (This is the ideal...
