Abnormal findings in the urine analysis -
Glucose and ketones.
Presence of glucose and ketone bodies in urine is abnormal.
Glucose in urine is known as Glycosuria which is seen in diabetes mellitus.
Normally glucose not appears in the urine until the plasma glucose concentration exceeds renal (kidney) threshold-180mg/dl.
Glycosuria is the first line screening test for diabetes mellitus.
Ketonuria is seen in uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. Diabetes is associated with insulin deficiency. This results in increased lipolysis (break down of fat) leading to accumulation of acetyl coA and its conversion to ketone bodies.
