Why do viruses, such as coronavirus, infect our cells?
Viruses are simply clusters of nucleic acid, may be DNA or RNA. It is surrounded by a protein shell and sometimes lipids.Outside a living cell viruses doesn't reproduce as they lack the raw material. As it host inside a living cell , it becomes active. when it enters a host cell it goes into action, interupting the cell’s metabolic mechanism to produce copies of itself which may burst out of infected cells or from a cell membrane. It kills the cells and impairs its function. Viruses are responsible for a wide range of diseases like common cold, measles, chicken pox, genital herpes, and influenza. Many of the infectious diseases, such as AIDS and SARS, are caused by viruses.
