What is the membrane pump that produce acid and how does it work? What are the acid producing cells in the stomach?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The membrane pump that produce acid is known as the gastric acid pump, also known as H+-K+ ATPase . This pump exports hydrogen to potassium in 1:1 ratio. this pump is a protein of P type ATP driven pump and it is uniquely located only in parietal cells.

Parietal cell also known as oxyntic cell. They are the stomach epithelium cell which secrete gastric acid (hydrochloric acid) . This acid is produced in response to histamine (H2), acetylcholine (M3) and gastrin receptors.
