If a patient’s blood plasma protein level elevates too much, what effect will it have on capillary exchange?
The pressure created by the concentration of blood plasma proteins is called the blood colloidal osmotic pressure and it shows its effect on the capillary exchange by accounting for the reabsorption of water. As the plasma proteins in the blood cannot move across the semipermeable membrane, they remains in the plasma and due to this, blood will have higher colloidal concentration lower water concentration than the fluid in the tissue. From this, we can learn that, blood colloidal osmotic pressure is higher than interstitial fluid colloidal osmotic pressure. This is the effect of elevated levels of blood plasma protein on the capillary exchange.
