  1. (1pt) What change is required from preexercise to postexercise to produce a positive test for exercise-induced asthma?

2. (2pts) Why might ventilatory flow rates increase following exercise?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

* In exercise induced asthma, the muscle bands around the airways got narrowed due to changes in temperature and humidity. This results in symptoms like wheezing, unusual fatigue and cough seen after the exercise and may be tested by using spirometry (measures how much air you inhale, how much you exhale and quickly exhale).

* During and after exercise, the metabolism rate of tissues got increased, that leads to increased demand of oxygen. * Inorder to meet the increased oxygen demand the tidal volume and respiratory rate of lungs will be increased that helps to supply sufficient oxygen to body tissues. Therefore the ventilatory flow rates are increase following exercise.
