You have discovered a new hormone. It is produced by hypothalamus and the target cells are found in the kidney. When injected into the target cells, specific proteins are produced. What type of hormone is it and how does it act upon the cell?
Select one:
a. Paracrine, gene activation
b. Paracrine & IP3 pathway
c. Neuroendocrine gene activation
d. Traditional hormone, IP3 pathway
e. Traditional hormone, gene activation
Option C
This is an example for neuroendocrine hormone (which is produced at one body site by the neuronal cells and acts at a distant place in the body) as in this case it is produced from neurons of the hypothalamus in the brain and acts on the kidney
It's affect is to produce specific proteins... For this to occur there should be upregulation of genes at the level of the nucleus to produce specific proteins
For traditional hormone, it has to be produced by endocrine glands not neurons.
For IP3 pathway, it activates certain proteins or channels but not synthesize specific proteins
Hope this helps... Thank you !!!
