During starvation, triacyglycerols undergo lipolysis to release fatty acids. Please describe the signaling events involved during this process.
The signaling pathway which initiate lipolysis is called cAMP dependent pathway of lipolysis.
In this process, whenever cAMP accumulate in adipocyte cells, it activates protein kinase A. This protein kinase A in turn cause phosphorylation of hormone sensitive lipase (HSL). Hormone sensitive lipase when activated cause lipolysis and triglycerides are broken down into fatty acid and glycerol.
Physiological signal which induces lipolysis are-
1. Dieting (starvation)
2. Physical exercise
3. Ageing.
