Hi, were learning how to calculate blood flow to different organs by using "ml/100g/min".

In our example question is says if a organ weighs 200g and the total blood flow is 400ml/min then the answer would be 200ml/100g/min.
How to do I set this calculation up? I'm really confused! Please show step by step please. Thank you

Answer #1

Blood flow to organ means the amount of blood received by a segment of organ ( which in this case is 100gram) per minute.

Given blood flow rate - 400ml/min

Weight of organ given- 200gram

Now, in one minute 400ml of blood is reaching and supplying a 200 gram organ.

So, 1gram organ will be supplied by- 400÷200 =2ml of blood.

Therefore, 100 gram of organ will be supplied by 100×2=200 ml of blood.

So the rate of blood flow to organ is 200ml/ 100gram organ/ minute.
