Before surgery, there will be an increase in blood pressure and glucose levels and this will be due to stress. The anesthesia and the stress before the surgery causes release of some stress hormones and these hormones makes our body less sensitive to insulin, which results in high glucose levels. Stress levels will be high before surgery and these high stress levels results in temporary increase in blood pressure. Patients who have elevated blood pressure and glucose levels are at higher risk of developing blood clots. So, the elevated levels should be normalized to proceed for the surgery.
