What is the significance of the R-T interval? Does this represent systole or diastole, and why? Explain, using the position of each of the four valves of the heart.

Answer #1

R-T interval is the interval between onset of R wave till end of T wave.

Significance of R-T interval- it represents the events taking place in ventricles. The QRS complex present in R-T interval represent the ventricular depolarization whereas T wave represent ventricular repolarization.

Thus it involve both systole and diastole because ventricular contraction represent systole (depolarization) and ventricular relaxation represent diastole ( repolarization)

During ventricular systole, bicuspid and tricuspid valve are closed and semilunar valves are open

And during ventricular diastole, semilunar valves are closed but bicuspid and tricuspid valve are open
