Explain why there is an absence of electrical activity between the following on an ECG:
1. between the P wave and the Q wave
2. between the S wave and the T wave
Depolarization of SA node produces P wave. After that current proceeds to atrial tissue and AV node. This current is too small to produce a depolarisation wave detectable from body surface, that'swhy the segment between P wave and Q wave appears to not have any electrical activity and appears flat.
The region between S and T wave also called ST segment appears to be flat normally because there is no electrical activity happening at that time. After complete depolarization of the ventricle ,there is no current moving across the ventricle that'swhy the area between S and T appears to be flat and with no electrical activity. After that repolarization starts.i.e. T wave
