Homework Answers

Answer #1

a. Skeletal system---5. osteoid, 3. hydroxyapatite and 1. creatin kinase.

  • Osteoid is the unmineralized, organic portion of the bone matrix which give hardness and rigidity to the bone and is composed of fibres and ground substance. They are found on the surface of the new bone.
  • Hydroxyapatite is an inorganic mineral made up of Ca+ and PO4. Osteoid contains 70% of hydroxyapatite.
  • Creatin kinase works with bones to help in the movement of the body.

b. Muscular system--6. tropomyosin and 1. creatine kinase, and 2. glycogen.

  • Tropomyosin is a protein which helps in skeletal muscle contraction.
  • Creatine kinase is a type of protein mostly found in your skeletal muscles.
  • Glycogen is present in most cells and the primary reserves are in the muscle.

c. Integumentary system--4. melanin.

Melanin gives a brown colour to the skin and protects the skin from UV radiation.

d. Nervous system-- 1. creatin kinase, 2.glycogen, and 6. tropomyosin.

  • Creatine kinases are present in the brain and spinal cord. There are three types of creatine kinases enzymes of which CK-BB, found mostly in brain tissues.
  • In the adult glycogen in the central nervous system is located in astrocytes., and in the peripheral nervous system is present in myelinating Schwann cells. The source of energy supply in the brain is glycogen.
  • Dendritic growth is affected by tropomyosin.
