the universal energy carrier is

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans. The universal energy carrier is ATP- adenosine triphosphate

This is called so because the energy is stored in the form of ATP in the cell.

Composition of ATP

Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is a nucleotide that is composed of adenine, ribose, and three phosphate groups, energy-rich compounds in a cell.

The phosphate groups are linked by phosphodiester bond and phosphoric anhydride which are energy-rich compounds having structural features bonds that release high energy after hydrolysis. The structural feature important in ATP is the phosphoric acid anhydride, or pyrophosphate, linkage.

As a result, these energy-rich compounds supply energy to cells for biochemical processes for which energy is required.
