The coordinates of the turning point of the graph of y = 4x 2 − x − 3

Homework Answers

Answer #1

From the above graph we can easily see that turning point of graph is (0,-3)

alternative method to find turning point -

On equating zero given equation we get x-coordinate, so put y = 0 in the equation

4x2-x-3=0

(4x+3)(x-1)=0

x=-3/4 and 1 or -0.75 and 1

find the y-intercept, put x = 0 into the equation

y=-3

Now we add the x-intercepts together and divide by 2.

x coordinate =(-0.75+1)/2

=0.25/2

=0.125

And y coordinate of turning point=4(0.125)2-0.125-3

=-3.0625

Hence turning point is (0.125 , -3.0625)
