Donna, Chris, and Austin have a total of $93 in their wallets. Donna has $7 more than Chris. Austin has 3 times what Donna has. How much do they have in their wallets?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Donna + Chris + Austin = 93 --------> (1)

Donna = Chris + 7 --------> (2)

Austin = 3*Donna -------> (3)

substituting (2) in (3), we have

Austin = 3*(Chris+7) = 3*Chris + 21 --------> (4)

substituting (2) and (4) in (1), we have

Chris+7+Chris+3*Chris+21 = 93

or 5*Chris+28 = 93 or Chris = (93-28)/5 = 13

Therefore Chris has $13 in his wallet

From (2) , Donna = 13+7 = 20

Therefore Donna has $20 in her wallet

From (1), 20+13+Austin = 93 or Austin = 60

Therefore Austin has $60 in his wallet
