Ron’s car left four skid marks on the road after he slammed his foot on the brake pedal to make an emergency stop. The police measured them to be 55 ft, 55 ft, 62 ft, and 62 ft. What skid distance will be used when calculating the skid speed formula?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The skid distance a function of the number of the skid marks as well as the lengths of the skid marks left at the spot. If there are 4 equal length marks ,then that length is used. If the lengths are not same or less than four skid marks are there , then the mean of these lengths is used. If only one skid mark is there, then that amount is used.So in this case we will calculate the mean of 55 ft and 62ft to calculate the skid speed.

So,skid distance that should be used when calculating the skid speed formula,
