x is twice the quantity 3 more than y. The sum of x and y is 126.

Answer #1

Sol.-

According to the question

x= 2(3+y) x= 6+2y. ---------(1)

and

x+y=126 -------(2)

Substituting the value of x from eq.(1) into eq.(2) we get

(6+2y)+y=126

6+3y=126

3y=126-6

3y=120

y=120/3

y= 40

substituting in eq.(1) we get

x=6+2×40=6+80

x=86

Hence, x=86 and y=40
