Question

On question 23 of 4.1.2 problems from 11th edition of A First Course in Differential Equations with modeling applications by Zill, why do we make the Wronskian only to the first derivative? Why don't we have to do it do the second derivative and get a 2 by 3 matrix since the original equation given includes 2nd derivative of y?

Answer #1

On question 37 in 2.5 of A First Course in Differential
Equations with Modeling Applicatiosn 11th edition,
how do we decide that the substitution to use is u=v^(1-n)?
In general, how do we decide what to substitute when solving
differential equations or using Bernoulli's equation?

Important Instructions: (1) λ is typed as lambda. (2) Use
hyperbolic trig functions cosh(x) and sinh(x) instead of ex and
e−x. (3) Write the functions alphabetically, so that if the
solutions involve cos and sin, your answer would be
Acos(x)+Bsin(x). (4) For polynomials use arbitrary constants in
alphabetical order starting with highest power of x, for example,
Ax2+Bx. (5) Write differential equations with leading term
positive, so X′′−2X=0 rather than −X′′+2X=0. (6) Finally you need
to simplify arbitrary constants. For...

Authenticity has become the gold standard for leadership. But a
simplistic understanding of what it means can hinder your growth
and limit your impact. Consider Cynthia, a general manager in a
health care organization. Her promotion into that role increased
her direct reports 10-fold and expanded the range of businesses she
oversaw—and she felt a little shaky about making such a big leap. A
strong believer in...
