Answer #1

Sol - Part (A) The answer to this problem is given below -

(a) Tax Rate = 40%

Loss = 500,000

Loss on Operation of Trucking division = 500,000 - 40% of 500,000 = 300,000

Therefore the loss on operation of trucking division is $300,000

(b) Calculation of Gain/loss on disposal of trucking division

Book Value of assets = $14,680,000

Sale Price of Assets = $18,000,000

Gain on Disposal = Sale price of assets - Book Value of assets

18,000,000 - 14,680,000 = $3,320,000

Gain on disposal of trucking division,net taxes = 3,320,000 - 40% of 3,320,000 = $1,992,000

Also in this question, there is nothing mentioned whether to attempt both parts so I have answered Part (A) of this question Hope it helps. Thank You
