Internal Audit can be conducted by company employees. External Audits cannot be done by company employees.
Internal auditors are appointed by the company. External Auditors are appointed by shareholders.
Internal Auditors do not require to be CPA's. External Auditor must be a CPA.
Internal Auditors report to management. External Auditors report to shareholders.
Internal audit involves appraisal of company's policies, practices and processses. External Auditors give an opinion about the financial statements f the company.
