What is CAATs in information technology for audits?

The full form of CAATs is Computer – assisted audit techniques. This technique is fastly growing in the field of IT audit profession. There are many types of software’s which are used in CAATs such as spreadsheets, word processors and text editing programs, statistical analysis etc.

The following are the advantages of CAATs.

  1. It automates the IT audit processes with the help of Computers.
  2. With the help of CAATs large sample of population data can be easily analyzed.
  3. It also helps auditors to test for specific risks.
  4. It also helps the auditor in fraud detection by identifying unexpected or unexplained patterns in data.
