There are five primary activities which form the value chain. They Include:

  1. Inbound logistics – Bringing in the raw materials, finished goods from suppliers to place of manufacture or sale.
  2. Operations (Production) : involves activities converting the raw materials to final product.
  3. Outbound Logistics : involves activities relating to storage of final product and process for moving the final product to the buyer.
  4. Marketing and Sales : activities to promote the sales of the product
  5. Service (Customer Support) : activities which help buyer after the sale

Design and Employee services form part of the support activities.
