Projection is an estimate of future happenings based on what is happening now.

'A Projection is only as good as the assumptions on which it is based' this statement is completely correct as we make projections based on assumptions.

Taking a wrong assumption will lead to a wrong projection and vice versa. Care should be taken that assumptions are free from myths and psychological factors. If our assumptions are data driven and logical, there's less probability of our projections going wrong.
