What is your opinion ofthe GM recall case? Was there fraud or deception involved? Did they fail to protect the public by releasing a harmful product?

Answer #1

The G.M. case involved multiple deaths when its numerous lawyers and engineers were already aware of the defect yet had delayed seeking a recall of the vehicles that were affected. That delay is the basis behind the fraud, deception, and criminal charges. During pre-production testing, the engineers of GM experience problems with ignition switches on the Ion, however the fix was too costly thus they disapproved the redesign proposal. GM put profit ahead of integrity, thus in my opinion a fraud and deception is involved and must be accountable for the losses. They surely fail to protect the public by releasing a harmful product as didn't identify and investigated the safety issues. General Motors should have improves the recall process, ensure safety of vehicles and protect whistleblowers and empower employees to report safety concerns.
