Answer #1

The business of Hospital has following two non-value-added activities:

a) Store of Medicines

b) house keeping

a) The stores of medicine is important to keep sufficient stock to cater the requirements of the patients. However, the stock should be limited to requirement and no medicine should be overstocked. Overstocked medicne may expire, after expiry date, and become useless, and the investment will become a dead investment. Since the funds have a cost attached to it, these should be used properly and should not remain in idle stocks.

b) Housekeeping is an important activity, as the hospital must be neat and clean every time. There is huge cost attached to this activity. Hence, it is important to plan the patient's movement, allotment of rooms, planning of OTs, that the cost of housekeeping can be controlled.

We, as consumers, have become quite spoiled by the food service industry catering to our desire to get our meals exactly the way we want them. Many counter service or "fast casual" restaurant chains like Subway, Chipotle, Five Guys, Yogurtland, Shake Shack, and Zoe's Kitchen are making our meals to order (or allowing us to do so in the case of some of the yogurt restaurants) while we wait. In this type of business model, food is generally less processed...
