Does the word Baroque fit as the name for this period (roughly 1600-1700)?

If you were an art historian charged with renaming the period known as the Baroque, what would you name it? Why would that be a better name? How does it encompass the different artistic output of the era (making sure to note some of the visual characteristics of the era)?

The word Barque literally means ' irregularly shape'. But this period (1600-1700) in Europe isn't irregular. Instead this period shows signs of architecture, music, dance and painting.

Thus it would be better to name it as 'period of arts' or 'artistic period'.
