You investigate an office computer for evidence of participation in a misappropriation fraud. You find several spreadsheet files that you suspect may contain incrimination information. But the files are password protected and you can’t open them. What do you do?

In this case, the concerned employee should be asked to enter the password and give us the access to such spreadsheets. The employee is under an obligation to do so and if fails to decrypt by password can also be liable to imprisonment or fine or both. Since this is the case of fraud and any evidence which is suspected to be participative in misappropriation fraud and is suspected to contain incrimination information should be throughly checked and if any one does not cooperate the investigation officer must be penalised as non bailable offence.

So in this case, investigating officer should ask the concerned employees to Co operate, in failure to which must take necessary action of doing this offence.
