Following are the considerations needed in determination of sample soze for a representative survey and their relation to each other:

  • when designing and taking sample, the ausditor shall consider the purpose of the audit procedures and the characteristics of the population from whic the sample will be drawn.
  • The auditor shall determine a sample size sufficient to reduce the sampling risk to an acceptable low level.
  • The auditor shall select items for the sample in a such a way that each samplig unit in the population has a chance of selection.
  • An increase/decrease in tolerable misstatement.  
  • An increase in expected rate of deviation of the population to be tested.
