Your organization filed all of its information returns with Revenu Québec when it was discovered that an error had been made on one employee’s paper RL-1 form. The Controller has asked you to investigate how the information slip should be corrected. Prepare a memo outlining the steps to take to amend your information returns.

Subject: Amending RL-1 form
Any error in a filed RL-1 form can be corrected by making use of amended RL-1 slips. The amended RL-1 slips are produced to replace RL-1 slips that have already been filed and have some incorrect data. By incorrect data I mean any error with regards to an amount. An amended slip cannot be used to correct errors with regards to the address or the identity of the recipient.
While making the changes the number that is present on the upper right hand corner of the filed RL-1 slip should be used. This number should be entered in the box that is marked “N0 du dernier releve transmis”. Secondly the word “modifie” will have to be entered on the 2nd copy of the amended RL-1 slip.
Filing an amended RL-1 also entails amending the related summary and filing it as well.
