The original divorce or separation agreement date is important on tax forms because the as per changes in law in case of Divorce agreements executed after December 31,2018 , Alimony paid is not deductible from the income of the payer spouse , Similarly alimony is not included in the income of the receipient spouse.

In case of a divorce agreement executed upto December 31,2018 , the alimony is deductible from income of the payer spouse & includible in the income of receipent spouse.
