MCE

Craig, Inc., has provided the following information for one of its products for each hour of production:

Actual velocity: 100 units (per hour)
Move time: 13 minutes
Inspection time: 10 minutes
Rework time: 13 minutes

Required:

1. Calculate MCE. If required, round your answer to two decimal places.

2. What is the theoretical cycle time? Calculate MCE using actual and theoretical cycle times. If required, round your answers to two decimal places.

Theoretical cycle time minutes
Actual cycle time minutes
MCE

3. What if waste is reduced by 45 percent?
New waste =  minutes

What is the new MCE? If required, round your answer to two decimal places.

What is the new cycle time?
minutes

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1. Ans :, Manufacturing cycle efficiency(MCE)

=Value added time /Non value added time

Value added time=process time

=total time - non value added time

=60 -(13+10+13)

=60-36

=24 min

MCE=24/60=0.4

2.ans

Theoretical cycle time

= Process time per unit of production

= 24/100

=0.24 minutes

Actual cycle time

= total time per unit of production

= 60/100

=0.6 minutes

MCE using theoretical cycle and actual times

= theoretical cycle time/actual cycle time

=0.24/0.6

= 0.4

3. New waste

= (total time-process time) x useful time%

= (60 - 24) x 55%. (100-45%=55%)

= 19.8 minutes
