External auditor independence means that the auditor does not have any conflict of interest in the company where he is performing audit work. An auditor is expected to express a true and fair view on the financial statements of the company. The auditors position should be such that his opinion is not influenced in any manner. The auditor should not have any direct or indirect financial interest in the company which may influence his judgement and affect audit procedures. This is known as external auditor independence.
